The origins of the School can be traced back to Father Egon Sendler, a priest and German artist who had worked for many years at the Foyer Saint Georges of Meudon near Paris. 1989 proved to be a decisive year for the school when it organised a major exhibition of ancient Russian icons in the Vatican and met with Adol'f Ovčinnikov, master of the Grabar’ Scientific Centre for Restoration in Moscow. In 1995 a first time encounter with the Orthodox monk Zinon di Pskov, one of the greatest Russian iconographers, afforded the masters of the School of Seriate the opportunity to attend numerous summer internships at his atelier. On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the School an exhibition on the saints was organised in the Villa Ambiveri. In 2006 a major exhibition on the mysteries of the rosary was set up in Caravaggio. The exhibitions are available for hire.
